RAF UXBRIDGE
Safety For were employed by Prosurv Consult Limited to undertake the CDM Co-ordinator role for the demolition of the former RAF Uxbridge site.
Working alongside the Principal Contractor, Cuddy Group, from September 2012 to the summer of 2015 the project contained various challenges. With Atkins acting as supervising engineer, the team had a number of listed and locally important structures which had to be protected during the works. The works involved a large amount of licensable and non-licensable asbestos which created some complexities in removal, including an entire boiler room having to be treated as contaminated due an historical asbestos removal process leaving asbestos containing residue throughout the room.
The project was also particularly noteworthy as sections of the site were being used by the BBC for filming of a periodic drama. The team had to ensure the persons involved were not exposed to any hazards caused by the demolition works.
