New Covent Garden Market Regeneration

Safety For were appointed by VSM (a joint venture between St. Modwen Properties PLC and VINCI PLC) as CDM Advisors on the New Covent Garden Market Regeneration. This landmark project saw the delivery of over 500,000 sq ft of new state-of-the-art market facilities across a 37-acre site which will house the 200 market businesses currently employing around 2,500 people.

As part of our role as Clients CDM Advisor, Safety For assisted the Client in taking reasonable steps to ensure that the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor complied with their duties under Regulation 4 CDM 2015.

We attended regular design team meetings, offering advice and assistance to the design team, while also working with VCUK project managers and their health and safety team to offer a ‘fresh pair of eyes’ perspective on ‘day to day’ operations.

The Client also used Safety For to audit operations to provide a ‘real time’ overview of health and safety on site. This was particularly important as the market is a ‘live’ environment with difficult traffic and pedestrian management issues all of which could be affected by the construction activities.

Our experience was also utilised in a variety of areas including asbestos management & removal, fire strategy planning and demolition works, all while ensuring market operations remained unaffected.
